Former Santa Clara baseball infielder Shawn Epidendio '05 enters his first year as assistant coach for the Bronco baseball team in 2007-08. Epidendio will work with the outfielders, assist with the hitters and coach first base. "I'm really excited to be back in a Bronco uniform," said Epidendio. "I enjoyed my playing days here and that had a lot to do with me coming back. I'm looking forward to working with the coaching staff and helping the team reach their goals this season." Before returning to his alma mater, Epidendio worked as a sales representative for M.E. Fox and Company and, last year, served as assistant coach for the Archbishop Mitty varsity baseball team. "Shawn isa great addition to the Santa Clara baseball coaching staff," said head coach Mark O'Brien. "To have a former player who has great knowledge and loyalty to the program means so much. Shawn brings tremendous energy and work ethic along with an outstanding concept of the game and of our program with him. I am absolutely thrilled to have him join our coaching staff." Epidendio played in 151 games, starting in 93, as a third baseman for the Broncos. He ended his collegiate career with a .269 batting average, 47 runs scored, 42 RBI and 100 hits. As a senior, he finished second on the team in on base percentage (.415) and recorded 42 hits in 149 at-bats. As a junior, Epidendio was first on the Santa Clara squad with a.443 on base percentage, second on the team after being hit by a pitch nine times and ranked third on the team with a .338 batting average. During his sophomore and freshman campaigns, Epidendio combined for 33 hits, 21 RBI and 20 runs scored.
PLAYING CAREER As a Senior in 2005: Started 39 of the 48 games he appeared in ... recorded 42 hits in 149 at-bats ... was hit-by-pitch 19 times during the season ... went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored against Cal Poly on February 26 ... doubled and drove in two runs against Cal Poly on February 27 ... had two hits against Pepperdine on March 19 ... went 4-for-6 with a home run, a double, and four RBIs on April 16 at Loyola Marymount ... had a four-game multi-hit streak from April 23-29, batting .588 (10-for-17) with a double, four RBIs and five runs scored in games at St. Mary's, at Stanford, and against Gonzaga, including a 4-for-5 performance against the Bulldogs on April 29 ... had a double and an RBI against Stanford on May 10 ... went a combined 5-for-12 in the final series of the year, scoring six runs and driving in one against Portland from May 20-22 As a Junior in 2004: Appeared in 40 games, starting 15... made first start of the year at Texas A&M on March 13... started the last five games of the season... ended the year on a six-game hitting streak... ranked third on the team with a .338 batting average... led the Broncos with a .443 on base percentage... second on the team after being hit by a pitch nine times... posted seven multiple hit games on the season... went 2-for-2 with three walks, two runs scored and two RBI against Pepperdine on May 16.
